The Senegal Health Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the general health and well-being of impoverished women, children, and families in the villages of the Casamance region of Senegal by providing stable health care services, safe birthing practices, and reproductive health and family planning education.
What we do
The goal of the institute is to improve the quality of life of the region’s inhabitants.
We provide much needed medical supplies for Kafountine and several village hospitals and dispensaries in the surrounding areas. We update hospital equipment and facilities. We educate mothers on the importance of receiving consistent prenatal and postpartum care. We are strong advocates for family planning and for making modern contraceptives available on a consistent basis. We retrain and update the skills and knowledge for midwives and traditional birth attendants. We encourage safe, compassionate and supportive birth environments with skilled attendants. We provide safe and compassionate maternity and baby care and promote breastfeeding. We educate parents on the signs and symptoms of the early onset of illness to encourage them to seek medical care for their children.
We are strengthening the community by educating the villagers on health needs.
